I have to admit when I thought about direct sales I never considered it was an opportunity to make money from home on the Internet.

Like every good business opportunity the direct sales business model is taking advantage of the Internet to increase their sales. This means there are tremendous opportunities to get involved with established companies if you're looking for a way to make money.

MyBut wife is in Avon, mostly to buy the products, but she sells things online as well. She just refers people to her online Avon brochure. Avon keeps her site up to date and when people make a purchase she earns a commission.

In many ways this is just like an affiliate program. You are given a website to promote, and even some marketing materials on the Internet to promote with. Of course the major direct sales companies are also big on using offline marketing materials to.

This does mean that you will have to learn how to promote your website. You are not going to be doing this face to face as much as it was done in the past. Although you certainly can order business cards with your website address on it and hand those out.

Many people in direct sales are not very good at Internet marketing yet. This is similar to many offline small-business owners who have a website or really do not know how to get traffic to it.

You will need to learn at least a couple of traffic generation strategies. Here are a couple I would suggest.

1. Blogging. This is a good way to make updates about your products as well as keep your group up to date if you are in opportunity that allows you to refer new members.

This should be fairly easy for you to do, because you will be blogging about a specific opportunity you are in. Hopefully you've chosen a direct sales company to join that you believe in and enjoy the product.

2. Email marketing. I would suggest you build an email list with all the people that come to your blog.

You can easily do this by putting the sign-up form on your blog. Join an autoresponder such as Aweber and store all of your subscribers names and email addresses in it.

This way you can send out updates directly to your list whenever you've got a new product announcement, or maybe you are running a sale on a specific product line.

Once you learn how to use the Internet to promote your direct sales product you will find making money at home a great way to earn a living.
