When I first started doing Internet marketing, with my own online home business, I spent a lot of time in discussion forums. Initially I did it to become more educated on how to make money online.

I would join a discussion forum as a free member and then just read the various threads that were going on. I used to like to go into the archived threads and dig back and find really good information as well.

I learned a few things about discussion forums. This is especially true as it pertains to the advice that some of the members are posting. It's not always factual or even accurate.

I used to love the Saturday Night live skit where Chris Farley was a motivational speaker that lived in a van down by the river. Should you take advice from someone who lives in a van down by the river?

It's kind of like the saying don't take financial advice from your brother in law if he lives in a mobile home and is unemployed. Yet many people make the same mistake when it comes to making money online.

One common mistake is to go to a discussion forum and start believing everything you read. You really don't know the background of the person making the post until you spend a little bit of time hanging out in that forum.

Over time you began to realize who is legitimate and who's not. However, initially you need to be careful who you listen to and what they say.

I like the Warrior Forum Special Offers because it is generally a tip on making money where the person providing the information documents their results. You can usually pick these up very cheap, and you know that the information you are getting is quality!

Discussion forums are a good place to find the the website or blog of people who really do know what they're talking about. These are the ones that you want to subscribe to their Ezine or RSS Feed.

I do that for a handful of Internet marketers I have come to trust over the years. For example, I have been on Allan Gardyne's affiliate marketing newsletter for almost 10 years now. It offers good advice on making money in affiliate marketing.

I look forward to receiving email from Willie Crawford. He doesn't over mail to his list and when he has something to send out it's usually worth looking at.

Darren Rowse is the owner of ProBlogger.net. If you want the best information on the Internet regarding making money as a blogger definitely subscribe to his RSS feed and visit his blog on a regular basis.

These are just a few tips I've discovered it regarding Internet marketing and being careful who you listen to. Don't believe everything you hear and read online regarding making money! Always consider the source.
