It is somewhat alarming to see the number of small businesses going out of business. You see this all of the time in local strip malls.

It doesn't matter if you are in a major metropolitan area like Denver, Colorado, or a smaller area such as Fayetville, Arkansas. There are plenty of retail businesses that have gone under.

The same thing is true for businesses that provide a service. These kind of companies are struggling as well.

In the last couple of weeks I have thought of 3 cool ideas you can use to help a local small business owner survive. By survive I mean staying in business and possibly even growing in 2012.

1. Buy American. This is not a new idea, but still a relevant one.

Before you buy a product look and see where the product is made. Whenever possible buy a similar product that is made in America.

All of us spend too much money buying products made in China or somewhere overseas without even realizing it. Look at the label and see where that product is made and attempt to find an American product instead.

2. Give the gift of service. This is a cool idea that makes it easier to buy holiday presents, or presents for other occasions.

For example, give a free haircut coupon as a present. Purchase a free house cleaning. Buy a coupon for a free lawn service or something similar. Local businesses make money when these are redeemed just like cash.

3. Restaurant coupons. Everyone eats out, or they would if it was free.

Take a look at some of the smaller restaurants in your area and see if there us a way you can help them. Purchasing a gift certificate and giving it away as a present is a good way to help that restaurant stay in business.

It doesn\'t take very long to come up with a lengthy list of things you probably spend money on and so do your friends. When you give the gift of a service or a small business restaurant you are helping that business stay busy.

If everyone in America would do this one time it\'s amazing how many more businesses would stay in business, and some might even need to hirer more employees.

Since our federal government doesn\'t seem to have any ideas on how to create jobs, all of us here in America need to step up and help our local small businesses. These are 3 of ideas on how to do it. Many times you can purchase these online or go directly to the business to buy them.
