Many people, maybe including yourself, enjoy eating at a restaurant or simply go there for the convenience. We have come up with sixteen quick tips for anytime you have to eat out.

A reasonable portion of healthy food is the wise man's shortcut to healthy eating for an entire lifetime.

Your portions should be spaced out over the course of the day. After mealtime, be sure to have a nice glass of water afterwards.

Going back to overeating, portion your food so that your stomach is only halfway full, no more than that. Drink one part water for every two parts of food you eat per meal. You also need to make space for air in your stomach - leave it at one quarter or more.

Wait five to ten minutes in between courses, and eat no more than half a portion at a restaurant. Restaurant portions are commonly two to four meals on a single or double plate.

This is way too much to consume at a single sitting and you may find out that, once you pause and sip your drink, you are already full.

We made travels to Rhode Island - a small state where some restaurants serve Texas-sized portions that are good for a family of four people. Gee whiz, you may be thinking, no wonder 200 pounds is considered thin for some males. Do not validate your overeating by saying everybody else is doing it - food is for living and for enjoyment, and too much of it is not good. Food is meant to be enjoyed and keep you healthy, not as a means of overindulgence.

Control your appetite to the best of your capacity. Most of us feel guilty if we don't finish a plate. Her intentions were good, but don't feel guilty if you can't finish your entire meal. It's easy to have your leftovers "to go" in such an event.

Breakfast is the one single meal you cannot skip. Most people find themselves overeating after skipping the pick-em-up meal of the day.

Exercise control as well when eating and chewing your food - slow and steady wins the race.

Your last meal or snack of the day must be rich in nutrients yet light on the tummy. Examples: Cereal with fruit, vegetable salad with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, rice with vegetables, and light popcorn, without the extra butter and salt. But most of you may be meat-eaters, so you can concentrate on fish or white meat for your last meals of the day.

In the later part of your day, skip desserts, sugary cereals, bread, and second portions.

If you have a craving for something sweet, then there are some neat ways to avoid the sugar - fruit and nut can be eaten with so many things, including low fat cottage cheese and yogurt.

Coffee and alcohol should normally be avoided, but hey, we're only human and we can have these two in moderation - extreme moderation. You may need to drink more water than usual to compensate for the dehydration brought about by these drinks. You may lose the Johnnie Walker or Jack Daniel's bottle in your cabinet and opt for wine instead, which is healthier - still, two glasses max is recommended for wine.
