When you change your perspective just a little bit, there are really tons of children friendly holidays. In fact, most special occasions are meant to be celebrated with your entire family - kids included. With just a little know-how and creativity, you can make relatively boring occasions for kids into fun filled, exciting events.
To start, remember that how friendly a special day is to any child simply depends on how it's celebrated. When romantic days like Valentine's Day might turn out to be boring for kids, keep in mind that there's a way to transform any event into a family oriented ordeal. There are so many ways to do this. Chief among these is to simply get the kids involved in something.
Valentine's Day, for example, is famous for romantic dinners, flowers and boxes of chocolates exchanged over a lace tablecloth. Kids probably don't see such things so appealing - yet. - and will prefer a fun take on a traditional day. Giving humorous Valentines to classmates is a good idea. Making hand made Valentines out of construction paper and paper doilies is fun. Don't forget glitter and glue. And candy, no matter what ages are involved, is always a hit.
A second holiday that is a hit with kids is Easter. While there are many ways to celebrate it, kids enjoy playing traditional Easter games and engaging in arts and crafts. Dying hard-boiled eggs in vinegar mixtures is always fun. Buying plastic eggs and hiding them within a certain area entreats kids to find all of the eggs. Fill them up with candy. Sometimes, hollow eggshells filled with confetti or fun to crack on top of an unsuspecting head or two.
The Fourth of July is unique, mostly because it is in the middle of the summertime. Having picnics outdoors is something that cannot be afforded in the middle of winter or even in the cool weather of early spring. Kids can enjoy using safe, small fireworks like sparkler sticks or noise-makers like party poppers, which can be purchased for a dollar. You may also want to indulge in watching a fireworks show at night.
Thanksgiving is obviously a major holiday. It's perhaps the only one that can compete - commercially - with Christmas. However, it's known for opening up the door to the beginning of the Christmas season as well. Kids can join in the spirit not only by joining in the feast, but by making decorations, watching historical re-enactments of the founding of Plymouth, and so on.
Christmas. It is probably the most endearing holiday in history, to young and old. It is difficult to find a day more special to the heart of children than this one. Everything about it - candy, presents, sledding, Santa Claus - is attractive to kids. Movies, plays, dinners, events and parties are entertainment the whole family can enjoy.
These special celebrations are even more fun when you enjoy them with your kids, too. How friendly it is towards a child depends on how you choose to celebrate it. You can pretty much enjoy a lot of activities without spending a lot of money. Plus, you'll be making priceless memories along the way.
