I first was drawn to article marketing after I lost $400 in one day on Google Adwords. I knew I was going to either have to learn how to do Adwords correctly, or find another method of marketing.

The thing that appealed to me about article marketing was the cost. It didn't cost anything to write and submit an article. Of course I later figured out that my time was an actual business cost, so article marketing wasn't exactly free.

I also learned the value of using a quality submission service such as Submit Your Article to get more articles out in the marketplace. This led me to concentrate more on SEO in every article I wrote.

The long-term benefit of an archived article is one of the primary benefits you will get from article marketing. A well written article can continue to bring you traffic and make money long after it's written.

I think the biggest mistake people make with article marketing is they underestimate how many articles they need to write. If you go to an article directory such as Ezine Articles dot com, and look at the expert authors, this will give you an idea of how many articles you need to be thinking about writing.

The exception to this might be if you are doing a very targeted niche. I am finding that to get an website ranked in for a targeted nich, article marketing works great. Plu you do not have to write or submit that many articles to start getting backlinks to it.

Another thing that I have figured out about article marketing is how much benefit you can get out of writing shorter blog articles. These are nice because you can write articles that are 150 to 200 words and get the same benefit out of it that you would a 400 word article in an article directory.

If you follow the same strategy of targeting keyword phrases, you can build a very large content blog very quickly writing shorter articles. You can also develop a lot of backlinks to your blog if you submit your posts to social directories using a service such as Only Wire.

If your goal is to build more targeted niche sites you can still use the power of blogging and article marketing. Write a good article and use it as a static homepage.

Then write shorter blog articles to target the keyword phrases you want to rank for. It doesn't take very long to develop a website of 10 to 20 pages and get them ranking.
